To five-year-old-Jack, Room is the world. . . . It’s where he was born, it’s where he and his Ma eat and sleep and play and learn. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits.

Room is home to Jack, but to Ma it’s the prison where she has been held for seven years. Through her fierce love for her son, she has created a life for him in this eleven-by-eleven-foot space. But with Jack’s curiosity building alongside her own desperation, she knows that Room cannot contain either much longer.

Room is the story of a Little boy Jack and his Ma’s life so far. They are trapped in a room after Ma was snatched by Old Nick.

Jack is born into Room and it is his entire world, his Ma is fierce and protects and teaches him. She keeps him as healthy and happy as she can while looking for a way out to save them both.

Room is told from Jacks POV so the writing is simplistic but surprisingly deep and meaningful the descriptors are all that of a 5 year old who doesn’t understand everything in life but by his own reasoning we know what is going on in the story.
When I started on the first sentence I was a bit worried about having a 5 year old narrator but the story was impeccable and wouldn’t have the same impact if it was told by anyone else.

What I really loved about this story was the emotions and underlining themes of what is real. All through the story I couldn’t stop thinking about how a parents world is a child’s world. Children don’t know better if I was raised in one room and heard about amazing things outside I would be able to imagine them either. One of my favorite descriptive scenes was when Jack was trying to figure out how all the things on TV were arranged Outside.
How did they stick to the ground? Where did the ocean go? Was is swirling and floating everything around?

There were heartbreaking parts and I was on my edge of my seat. this story is truly a story of a Mother and child’s love conquering grave circumstances and learning how to live again.

This story was beautiful and really showed the courage of human strength and the damage people are left with after such traumatic experiences.

 

 

The ending was perfect for me although I wouldn’t mind a epilogue showing Jack as a teenager or adult.

A great story but it didn’t blow me away or make me cry but I would recommend it 🙂 I can’t wait to see the movie. Unfortunately I can’t find a copy of it anywhere! I’ll keep looking for it though.
