Since You’ve Been Gone By Morgan Matson

18189606.jpgIt was Sloane who yanked Emily out of her shell and made life 100% interesting. But right before what should have been the most epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. All she leaves behind is a to-do list.

On it, thirteen Sloane-inspired tasks that Emily would normally never try. But what if they could bring her best friend back?

Apple picking at night? Okay, easy enough.

Dance until dawn? Sure. Why not?

Kiss a stranger? Um…

Emily now has this unexpected summer, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected), to check things off Sloane’s list. Who knows what she’ll find?

Go skinny-dipping? Wait…what?Synopsis taken from Goodreads

My second Morgan Matson read! Also:

Emily has just started Summer and can’t wait to have fun with her best (and only) friend Sloane, there is only one problem, Sloane isn’t here.

Sloane has up and left with nothing but a list for Emily. A list of impossible tasks for someone as shy and timid as Emily. Emily can barely think about completing this list but then she has a brain wave… what if at the end of the list she can find Sloane? SO she sets out to start the impossible: Hugging a Jamie, Stealing something, skinny dipping and a whole lot of other tasks that would be perfectly easy for someone, ANYONE else.

This book is full of adventures and made me laugh A LOT. It has a fantastic romance and more importantly focuses on friendship.

The friendship in the book was the main essence. Seeing Emily step up and have such positive relationships is exactly what I want in a contemporary.
What really made this book special to me was Emily herself.

Emily is so relatable. She is funny, awkward, and all kinds of lovable. Her fears may seem small to some but oh are they all to real for me and countless others. Also Emily is a runner and so am I. I understand the feeling you get when you run and I love that it was such a big part of the book. Running is as much of an escape as reading is for me. When I run I can shut off and achieve. I can push past my barriers and realise I am strong. Even if I only go for 10 minutes I did it and that’s what matters. Not losing weight, not beating others, just proving to myself that when I think its all over and my knees are weak I can always take those few extra steps and that’s when I’m at my best. When I prove to myself that even when my body feels done my heart will always push me through the worst.

I only gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads but now writing this and thinking of how this book really made me feel I’m bumping it up to 5/5 stars. Highly relatable, funny and touched on some heavy issues in a careful and effortless way.

Morgan Matson is now one of my favorite Authors and I can’t wait to read more of her work.

I hope everyone has a great day and remembers that when you feel like everything’s impossibly hard, lace your shoes up and push on because you can do anything you put your heart to even if it is just taking that one extra step.
