SPOOKTOBER & Halloween Read-A-Thon

Hi Guys, It’s October, that means Halloween XD Now unfortunately in my neck of the woods australia we’re not that big on Halloween, so to compensate for my country lack of holiday fun it will be Halloween month on the blog!

I’ll be participation in Lauren from Wonderless reviews halloween read-a-thon and I’ve enlisted two friends to help me. Introducing Trev and Larry

Trev will be appearing whenever I dislike a book or fell meh about it, he’s a pretty laid back guy and it takes a heck of a lot to scare him.

Then we have Larry, who loves lots of blood, murder, and maybe even the occasional romance in his Horror. Larry will be around for all the good times and great books.

Now onto the good stuff! My Halloween TBR plans

(it’s basically anything that is scary and contains blood)

costume party.jpg

Pretty self explanatory. There’s no “guidelines” if you think a cover is creepy for whatever reason then it counts!830502

IT by Stephen King, I’m a huge King fan but I tend to put his books off because there so lengthy, even though I love them to bits. I’ll be reading IT for the first time and I can’t wait for some psycho Clown action *hides under bed*

Look at that cover! So creepy *shudders*

Haunted House.jpg

By Supernatural or Paranormal I mean books that feature things such as: ghosts, vampires, witches, werewolves ect.8709527.jpg

Bloodlines By Rachelle Mead, I just finished Vampire Academy and LOVED it a whole lot. I can’t wait to start the spin-off series and see more of these characters and this world.

Also lets just ignore the cover, DON’T LOOK AT IT ahh I really dislike the whole girl face on the front cover thing.

urban legends.jpg

In my opinion people are scarier than monsters so for Horror or Thriller this means a book where real people are the ones who are causing all the scariness.

In The Woods by Tana French sounds amazing:237209

Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a twelve-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox—his partner and closest friend—find themselves investigating a case chillingly similar to the previous unsolved mystery. Now, with only snippets of long-buried memories to guide him, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the mystery of the case before him and that of his own shadowy past.
Richly atmospheric and stunning in its complexity, In the Woods is utterly convincing and surprising to the end.

YES! I love a great detective, thriller and I’m so excited to read this.

witching hour.jpg

Again, pretty self explanatory. Fun fact: the witching hour is 3am-4am, but obviously I’m not going to force you all to read at that time. So just read a book after the sun has set! 457025.jpg

Four Past Midnight By Stephen King. I’ve had this book on my shelves for years (sorry Mum, but you forgot about it so..) I’m planning on picking up this at night because there are 4 short stories and I can most likely get through them over the course of the readathon.

This may change to Carrie but we’ll see what happens *shrugs*

trick or treat.jpg

There’s two options for this challenge. You can choose TRICK and read a scary book you’ve been putting off OR you can choose TREAT and read any book you want from ANY genre (not just horrors ect.)

I’ll be reading Strings by David Estes as part of our The Dragon’s Hoard Book club and I’ll be re-reading Illuminae before I get my hands on GEMINA!

all hallow eve.jpg

Read six books! Your sixth book can be any scary book you want.

So that;s my TBR but it’s bound to change! I also have these books on my radar for this month:

Other than reading a bunch of scary books I hope to watch some Horror

What are your Halloween plans? Are you joining in with the readathon? Will you be reading Horror/Thriller books? Who’s your favourite Horror Author? I’d love to know!

Also my reviews this month are going to be all horror/thriller/paranormal/monster books so yay!

    1. DX Ah! I wonder what I’ll think, I hope I don’t hate it but I seem to be more critical or Thrillers and Mysteries because I expect more of them then I do fantasy or contemporary. I’ll definitely check out your review once I’ve read it and let you know if I agree or not 😀

  2. Yay, it’s nice to find another Halloween loving Aussie! I’m currently reading World War Z and also have The Fireman lined up for this month. I don’t tend to read horror coz I’m kinda a wuss. Under the Dome sounds interesting, as do a few of the others you’ve mentioned. I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of them.

    1. Ooh I have world was Z just sitting on my shelf! How are you liking it? I’m nearly finished Under the Dome and I’m really liking it 😁 I went and bought some Halloween decorations today! Can’t wait to put them up ☺️ I don’t know why the rest of Australia just doesn’t join in with the fun American Halloween looks like a heap of fun!

      1. World War Z is great! I’m listening to the audio and it’s a full cast because of the style which is a heap of fun.

I also forgot to squee about Gemina – can’t wait!!

I don’t know why more Aussies don’t embrace Halloween. I do know that I found a great purple pumpkin candy holder and a bunch of candy that I will be forcing on my workmates tomorrow!

    1. It’s so great that there from Melbourne! (Although nearly all ARC’s were only available in the US and not here *cries*)

Everytime I see them around I’m just like internally fangirling and trying to hard to look cool on the outside XD

      1. Ugh. I get so frustrated when ARC’s aren’t dispersed well amongst the region the authors are from. How can you properly celebrate the great authors of your region without being able to squee before everyone else?! Crimes, I swear.
I’m glad I’m not the only one with author fangirl problems. Such problems. 😉

  3. I’m so excited about this readathon! Halloween is one of my favorite times of year. “In The Woods” is amazing, I read it at I think the end of last year and since then have plowed through all the rest of the series.

      1. I forget sometimes that not all countries celebrate it! I’m currently living in South Korea and in general they seem to think it’s a ghastly, horrible holiday…oh well. I still like it, haha!

  4. It scares me to death and I’ve never read it! What about all the evil clown sightings in real life?! That will be a good and scary book to read this time of year! I’m interested in Bloodlines and can’t wait for Gemina either! Happy haunted reading and good luck! 😀

    1. THE EVIL CLOWN SIGHTING ARE CRAZY! I was thinking the same thing after I heard about them “Am I really planning on reading about evil clowns and then being scared to go outside?” Atleast it will be even more scary *hides under covers*
It’s so long though I’m planning on reading it last 🙂

*nervous laughter* Yay to horror reads, excuse me while I watch some cartoons to take the edge off XD

  5. Yay! I love your TBR! I adore Stephen King, but have only read a few of his books, and have yet to read one of his horror books! I will be looking forward to your reviews of Pet Semetary and IT in particular. I read Under the Dome a few years ago and it is definitely a mind f***… one of those books that you ponder what you would do in the same situation. I definitely enjoyed it. It’s a log one though lol

That is such a bummer that Australia is not big on a Halloween! We go crazy for it here in the states. Both my kids have October birthdays, so we have a big Halloween birthday bash every year.

    1. Halloween sounds so fun at your house! *jumps on a plane* XD
I’ve read Pet Sematery before and it is by far the scariest book I’ve ever read, I don’t remember it that well though so I can’t wait to re-read it, IT’s a long one as well I’ll be saving it for last XD I just finished Under the Dome and it was fantastic and scary. I loved the big cast and small town setting, definitely mind boggling to think about.

I’ve read a few of his books but there are just so many! Can’t wait to read more of him though I always enjoy them even though they can be a bit wordy at times 😀

But I have some scary books I’ve been putting off and this seems like a great occasion to finally read them, plus I like challenge 😛 I haven’t read any of these books but they seem great! I hope you like them. I’m also thinking about rereading Illuminae soon! ❤ happy reading!
