Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies . . .
Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires – the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.
After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger . . . and the Strigoi are always close by.
Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever . . .
This book is so fantastic, I breezed through the writing, the characters grew on me in a good way even if they did rub me the wrong way at times. The world is perfectly explained and I loved the Vampire types and the boarding school setting.
I was so prejudiced about this book, I mean the cover, the name, even the synopsis didn’t really interest me (I haven’t read a vampire book in a good 5 years) Thank you to everyone who still raves about this book because you’re the only reason I picked it up.
Rose:
– Bit of a bitch
– Snarky as hell (I like)
– A fierce friend (even if she does go a bit to far sometimes)
– Strong girl
– Confident with her body and in herself
– Upfront
Lissa
– Complicated character
– warring with herself
– Traumatised past that has turned her into the person she is today
– Not a snob
– Not an asshole (she balanced out Roses bitchiness quite well)
– A fierce friend
The boys
Man if it was 8 years ago I would have been in love with all of these characters, right now all I can say that I really love Dimitri and can’t wait to see more of his character.
Rose could be a but to much of a bitch at times, I guessed at all the mysteries right away, why couldn’t our characters catch up a little faster? Some of the plot lines/twists were very cliché but the writing was so well done it just got away with it.
4/5 STARS!
I know a lot of you LOVE this series and I’m so happy to say I do to! So are you with the rest of us over here screaming ‘Don’t look at the covers just READ IT” or are you like past me saying ‘I’ll read it one day’
PS: If you do or ever have liked Vampire books then READ this! Please and thanks you XD
P.S. Larry who is my little Ghoulie for the month (he pops up on good reviews) wrote a note

I really enjoyed them all (I think I would have been REALLY in love with them if I had read them when I was younger) Rose was a bit too bitchy for me at times, but I felt like a teen again reading all the drama and plot twists XD

I might test this series out, soon, but I’m a little hesitant after disliking my first Richelle Mead read – The Glittering Court. I hear Vampire Academy is much better, though! Great review! xx

I’ve heard some bad reviews about The Glittering Court, I don’t think I’m going to pick that up but this series is definitely worth it, I mean it has some problems but I had so much fun reading it 😁 I hope you love it when you get around to reading it!

Great review! I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not I think I’ll like this series for a couple years now. After this review though, I think I will. I just need to read it already! 😂

I’m glad you enjoyed this book! I really didn’t take to it, honestly. I felt like I was being lectured the whole time about this whole world… it irritated me. I did really like Rose’s character, though.
Have you read more of this series? If so, does Rose stop lecturing about Moroi and Strigoi? Because… Yeah. If we pass that, I think I could get into this.

I’ve read the whole thing now and loved it 🙂 I thought the whole series was a solid 4/5.
I didn’t really notice the lecturing in the other books BUT there is a lot of re capping of what happened in the last books that got pretty annoying, so its more then likely the talk of Moroi and Strogoi continue 😦

I remember reading Vampire Academy back when the whole teen vampire thing was HUGE. I remember quite enjoying it. Although, I’ve heard the film’s not so great.

I haven’t seen the film but I’ve heard its horrible, I may watch it just to cringe and throw pop corn at it XD

There’s a podcast called How Did This Get Made? where a bunch of film critics discuss so-bad-its-good films. They did a recent episode on VA. It was pretty funny, and kinda made me want to watch the film too!
