Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick

“I’m excited to publish my first book, and because I get uncomfortable when people have high expectations, I’d like to use this opportunity to showcase my ineptitude, pettiness, and the frequency with which I embarrass myself. And while many of my female inspirations who have become authors are incredibly well-educated and accomplished comedy writers, I’m very, very funny on Twitter, according to Buzzfeed and my mom, so I feel like this is a great idea. Quick question: are run-on sentences still frowned upon? Wait, is ending a sentence with a preposition still frowned upon? I mean, upon frowned? Dammit!” —Anna Kendrick

Scrappy Little Nobody is hilarious from start to finish, I am so happy I listened to the audio book it was like a huge hilarious podcast featuring Anna Kendrick the whole time and who doesn’t love that? (people that don’t like Anna Kendrick but shhhh they’re a myth because I haven’t met anyone that doesn’t like this hilarious child adult)

Hearing about how down to earth Anna is and her outlook on fame and her own success was great, the book never felt too over the top and there was so much self-deprecating humor and just hilarity in general it really made me love her as an actress and person even more.

I also learnt a lot more about what it was like for her being a child actress and starting off in indie films. Hearing about how she wasn’t actually paid that much, I am the person that assumes that people are automatically mega rich when they’re some what famous of course this was all before Pitch perfect.

I adore Anna’s singing voice and her style of comedy, the writing in this never felt fake it felt like having a conversation with her that was extremely one sided but awesome nonetheless.

4/5 Stars

I don’t usually read Celebrity Autobiographies because I feel like some of them can just be really pretentious and over the top but if there’s more like Kendrick’s then I need them in my life asap, right now, seriously I’ll run to the library.

After reading this I have put these onto my tbr/audio wish list:

It’s nice to have a change from Young Adult fiction and I’m definitely going to start reading some more non-fiction books to help break up my fiction reads and hopefully avoid book slumps!

Have you read this or any Celebrity autobiographies you enjoyed? I highly recommend the Audio for this if you’re thinking about picking it up.

The only other one I can think of that I actually enjoyed was Richard Hammond’s but if you don’t like Top Gear I wouldn’t recommend it xD

    1. Thank you! I just want to be her bestie, I also have a serious desire to re-watch Pitch Perfect. It was also really cool to hear about her career and all the inside goss about how the hype around Twilight was 🙂

  1. I don’t read celebrity autobiographies much thinking that they wouldn’t be so informative or interesting, but nowadays I do wonder if some of them might actually be quite fascinating! I’ve been eyeing the one by Bryan Cranston just cause I really like the guy as an actor. But I’m quite glad to hear Anna Kendrick’s book was fun and interesting for you! Nice review! 😀

P.S. That gif was wayyyyy too mesmerizing. I think I stared for a good 5 minute. :O

    1. I don’t think I’d be interested in all celebrity auto’s but for the celebs that I do like it’s really cool to read more about them 🙂 I’ve read some bad ones *cough Russel Brant* so it can be hit or miss XD

Isn’t it! Anna is just so cute her gifs sum up my fangirl feels so well XD

  2. OKAY CASEY your review for this has me so excited for this book! I never read non-fiction because I always get bored but I really want to try this, especially because Anna is the cutest bean ever and I love Pitch Perfect! Thanks very much for this awesome review and I’m going to be hunting down a copy of this now!

    1. She is such a cute bean! I love her even more after this she’s just so down to earth and not what i picture a celeb to be like (i know they’re normal people but I just always expect them to be fancier) I hope you love it! She talks about all her acting roles as well as just funny things that have happened to her, high recommend the audio!

  3. I have never read this one but I have heard plenty about it. I absolutely adore Yes Please and have been wanting to read Bossypants because of that. Lovely post!

  4. I don’t think I’ve seen her in anything other than Twilight actually but I’m so glad that didn’t hurt her career. I’ve never seen Pitch Perfect, which is odd because I love Glee and it just seems like a petty version and I’m here for that kind of thing. I might watch them this coming weekend. Great review Casey, I might check out some more non fiction as well ❤ ❤

    1. I never watched Glee 0.0 I love the Pitch Perfect movies though, she’s one of my faves so I think I’ve seen most of her movies but her biggest success was Pitch Perfect 🙂 Thank you Kelly!

    1. Pitch Perfect 2 wasn’t as good as the first but I liked it anyways XD
Her writing nothing mind blowing but her voice that she gets to come through her writing was perfect for me.

  6. I also listened to the audiobook for this title and I LOVED IT! I love Anna Kendrick so, so much, and listening to her stories about how she grew up and how she ~deals with Hollywood was such an amazing experience. She’s funny but not too try-hard, and her cheer is just infectious. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed this one as well. ❤

    1. The audio book is so so good! It made me want to listen to so many more non fic/celeb books because of how good it was!
I’ve watched her interviews and whatnot so I already thought she was pretty cool but this just sealed the deal XD I loved all her childhood stories and anecdotes about growing up as a child actor 😀

    1. That was one of my fave things about it, I mean it’s just like a giant podcast of her telling all about her career and how she got to where she is with a side of weird things she’s done along the way XD

  7. I’m waiting on this one to become available through my library’s digital database so I can download it via audiobook! I’ve heard good things about it. Many of the other reviews I’ve read also mentioned how down to earth she is. I read Yes, Please by Amy Poehler last year and really enjoyed it. I would say fans of SNL and Parks & Rec would probably appreciate it a little more, but not necessary to enjoy it.
