Top Ten Creepy Covers – Top Ten Tuesday

TOP TEN TUESDAY you beautiful blogging motivational tag XD This is a feature created and run by The Broke and the Bookish.

This weeks topic is: Cover Theme Freebie:

So I being the person who screams over covers every second of my life am going to do something different and scream in terror, some of these books are my fave horrors and others are ones that are just so amazingly freaky I can’t wait to pick them up, lets do this:

fun fact I promise I am lovely and enjoy cute fluffy books too it’s just sometimes some stabbing is necessary… you know for a balanced reading diet…

Carrie by Stephen King

This is one of my first Horror books I ever read and I love it, seriously Matilda if she was pushed to the brink and went on a killing spree… How could I not love it, thanks for the recommendation Mum XD I couldn’t choose just the one edition, I love the red original cover but the blood and model on the left cover just looks amazing to me.

The Haunting of Hill House By Shirley Jackson

The creepy house, the eye poking out from the middle, the FONT and stark black on mustard yellow. This book looks sinister and makes me think of ghosts and the classic Victorian horror house settings with the house coming alive to trap and kill the characters.

This is still on my TBR but man it looks hauntingly good.

Pet Semetery by Stephen King

Easily my favourite book by King. Pet Semetery may look cute (at least the one on the left) but it scared the absolute shit out of me. The creepy cat works perfectly with the story (I’m already suspecting I should rename this post to fangirling over King’s covers)

14998099.jpgThe Culling by Anthony Hustle

Creepy foggy woods, anyone up for a stroll? Wood settings always get me, maybe it’s because of my love/freight at The Blair Witch Project but being in the woods and having a maniac after your frightens me more than being in a haunted house, there’s no one around and you’re in a setting that allows for a perfect murder scene.

This is still on my TBR but Culling anyone? We all know what that means and I don’t think it’s talking about trees.

226162.jpgThe Omen By David Seltzer

I think it’s safe to say we’ve all heard if not watched this movie, The antichrist? 666? Evil Nannies?

This cover just gets me, creepy kids always freak me out as well as kids that aren’t really children *shudders*

You By Caroline Kepnes

One of my ALL time favourite thriller/horror’s feature a stalker serial killer that loves to read, what that my book boyfriend killed a few people bUT HE OWNS A BOOK STORE SO SCORE 1 FOR ME :’D This has all the gore and murder I want from a thriller/horror… Look I swear I’m not weird it’s just I prefer my horror’s a bit R rated… The simplicity and blood on the covers just grabs me. I have Hidden Bodies FINALLY and can’t wait to read more about Joe.

13597728.jpgAsylum by Madeline Roux

The Mirror? The creepy grey scale, the girl with a crossed out face (crossed out faces ALWAYS terrify me but in a good way ya know?)

3 boys exploring a creepy summer home? Yeah I already know at least 2 of them are going to be violently murdered. So um yes I would like to read this book because creepy and high potential of murder?

764347Unwind by Neil Shusterman

This book has so many good reviews and actually deals with a dystopian reality of reproduction rights and parents being force to keep all kids until the age of 13, then they can decide to have their child “unwound” where all their organs are given to other donors so their life kinda keeps going? at least in others bodies. The main character was born to be unwound and must escape to be able to love his own life.

I need it, I need it right now. How creepy and terrifying oh and the cover works so well with the synopsis alone I imagine it fits the book perfectly

So if you’re still here I PROMISE I AM NOT A MURDER… I just enjoy characters dying? Look I’m as weirded out by my as you are lets just leave it at that XD

Do you have any fave covers that made you instantly add a book? Did you do a TTT post too? Have you read any of these books? If so what did you think? LETS TALK BELOW 😀

  1. I’VE GOTTA READ KING. Preparin’ to be creeped out. A lot.
I also have Unwind (and the rest of that series) on my TBR!!! I super duper hope it’s good, it sounds AMAZING.
Awesome post and NO OF COURSE YOU’RE NOT WEIRD. If the book is horror and somebody doesn’t die gruesomely then is it even a worthy horror book? Nope.

    1. BEC READ KING WHAT YOU DOING? Unwind sounds so creepy and cool… also really scary like I probably would of killed me off at 13 (such an annoying age) bahaha

Nice to know I didn’t come off as a budding murderer the more gore the better XD

  2. I need to read pet cemetery because when I was younger I really liked how creepy the movie was. I also now wanna move up You on my list asap. It sounds so good. I also found some new books I haven’t heard of before so I’m excited for that. Really enjoyed this post.

    1. The movie is such a good adaptation, Kings books always work so well on film in my opinion 🙂 I hope you love the book when you get to it, it’s just so creepy and one of the first horror’s that ever scared me.

I love You, it’s told in second person which was really different and all that much creepier the writing is fantastic any author that can show me the inside of a stalker/serial killers head and still make me like the character is amazing to me, I hope you love it!
hehe thank you I really liked cruising my shelves and goodreads looking for all the creepy covers XD

      1. There are so many Stephen King books I want to really want to read and then watch the movies. I recently saw The Shawshank Redemption and now I really want to read the story. I also feel I need to read It too since the movie is being remade.
The way you described You had me super intrigued. I’ve been wanting to read it for a while but I’m all over the place with books I want to read but now I’m hoping to pick it up soon.

        1. haha i’m the same way! I just want to read everything at once XD I need to read It, I’ve managed to not watch the old movie and avoid trailer for the new coz I don’t want to go into the book with any real knowledge. It’s just so huge though I always find other books to pick up instead XD

Shawshank is such an amazing movie! I haven’t read his book movie of it but I’ve been told it was adapted from one of his short stories.

I hope you enjoy You when you have the chance to read it 😀

          1. I saw part of the old movie and then never realized that the second part was on the back of the disk so I never saw what happens in the end. So I guess if I read the book I’m happy I won’t know the ending. I know the new trailer didn’t show too much as well. I’ll probably try to pick up the book before the actual movie comes out.
Thanks! I’ve been wanting to read Shawshank for the longest time after watching the movie. I also really need to read and watch Misery. I’ve always heard about it but that’s another one I haven’t picked up.

  3. Oh I love your take on this week’s theme Casey. I don’t read a lot of horror books, or really any at all, but I do love book covers and some of these are quite interesting.
Stephen King has got to be the king of horror right? I’m really not surprised to see more than one of his books on here, and more than one cover design for each. When it comes to Carrie I definitely prefer the cover on the left, with the model and the blood, kind of makes the story seem even more scary than the one on the right you know?
Also I have Unwind on my to-read list, along with pretty much all of Neal Shusterman’s books, I can’t wait to get started because I’ve heard so many amazing things about them. 🙂
Again great picks for this week! 😀 ❤

    1. Horror isn’t for everyone but yes King is definitely the best of the best, his writing, his ideas, the places he takes his stories I just want to look into his brain and try to figure him out! I’ve heard so much about Neal Shusterman but never read anything by him, super excited to start Unwind it sounds so good!
Agree with the carrie cover, the left is a movie cover I’m pretty sure so I do like the right and how scratchy and messy it looks but the blood and girls face just adds more of an effect.
Thank you Beth! I had so much fun cruising my shelves and goodreads for creepy covers XD

      1. I’ve learnt from harsh experience that it definitely isn’t for me. 🙂 Still even I’ve heard a lot about how amazing King is as a writer and how brilliant his stories are. Even if they’re not my thing I can still appreciate how popular they are and how amazing an author he is. 🙂
It really does, I have Scythe by him on my to-read list first. If I like that I’ll try and get around to Unwind next.
Ahh, normally I’m not a massive fan of movie covers but I guess the Carrie one is an exception.
        That’s all right! 😀 ❤

  4. Lord those Stephen King covers make my skin crawl, the creepy bastard. I must admit, I don’t read all that many crime type thrillers probably because the covers typically are super creepy. That Asylum cover and the storyline of violent murders plural? Nope nope. I’m such a chicken, I honestly couldn’t sleep at night. I remember the last book I read marketed as horror, it was Anna Dressed in Blood. That’s how much of a wuss I am.

    1. How good are they though, Kings covers are some of my faves! omg the Asylum being creepy and including so many murders is exactly why I want it: Murder= happy Casey XD (especially if they’re annoying or douche bag characters) I love a good scare basically if it can make me not want to sleep with the lights off I need XD
I’ve actually heard good things about Anna Dressed in Blood did you like it?

  5. Yes to all the creepy covers. Carrie is Matilda if pushed to the brink…haha! I’ve never thought of it that way, but it’s so true. Bless Miss Honey, she probably saved us all. I haven’t read it yet, but the cover for The Women in the Walls piques my horror-loving heart. Great list!

    1. oooh The Woman in the Walls, first that name is already creepy and second that cover! I love the text and creepy house in the background 😀

YES Thank you to Miss Honey! XD Everytime I read books with telekenisis all I think of is Matilda although Carrie is definitely maltilda pushed to the brink a couple 100 times XD
Thank you! It was so fun making this list ❤

    1. Thanks Ash! Carrie is one of my faves as it was my stepping stone to horror 😀 Plus I love a good revenge/vengeance plot XD
I’ve heard its kinda like Miss Peregrines with pictures through out! Can’t wait to grab myself a copy 🙂

  6. Whenever I saw you were doing creepy covers I was like “I bet there will be a lot of Stephen King books on this list!” 😂 He definetly has some creepy covers. I have the movie cover for Dreamcatcher and I used to have it laying face down when it didn’t fit on my shelves because it really creeped me out. I’ve yet to actually read any of his books (hopefully this year) but the covers can be really creepy. And the cover for Asylum creeps me out too. Great picks for this!! 😊

    1. He has so many creepy covers I think I could have done a top ten Stephen King covers and still be torn between wanting to include more! ahaha Facedown is probably the safest XD I hope you love his work when you start! There’s definitely a lot to read if you do end up liking it so thats always a plus 😀

    1. I’m so happy you liked the post! Horror covers are some of my faves and I love how creepy they can get and how many hints they can give to the story.

haha The Culling sounds AMAZING seriously I hope it’s good just so I don’t have any reason to unhaul that cover once I get it xD

    1. How great are they! Plus he has so many editions and reprints you can pick from, my editions at home are so mismatched because I like some editions over others and don’t care if they all match XD

  7. I thought to myself when I opened this post “I bet a Stephen King book makes this list” and I was right lol

“seriously Matilda if she was pushed to the brink and went on a killing spree…” hahahaha I’m dying here! Thanks for putting this image in my head lol

I went to a horror panel at a book festival (because I don’t read horror and why not go listen to a bunch of horror writers talk about scary shit?) and The Haunting of Hill House was brought up as a book rec along with many SK books.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hey I’d go to nay panel really as long as it’s authors I’d be there so going to a horror without being a horror fan completely reasonable for a bookworm XD
I tried to reign the Stephen king in but there were just so many books of his I love and that have awesome covers I couldn’t help myself! You’re welcome for the Matilda image seriously am I the only person that makes that connection when they think about Carrie! Now just don’t watch Matilda for a while or you’ll start picking it apart and finding all the spots she could/should have turned into Carrie XD
