Bastard Assassins – A list of my loves

Hey Hey my favourite people, today I thought I’d start a new thing on the blog (let’s see how long it lasts). I realised I love a lot of the same thing in books like Hate to Love, Stabby characters, Anti heros, Assassins etc… So here is the first of hopefully a series of posts with books that contain my fave character traits and tropes.

We’ll keep it short and sweet because I don’t want to completely destroy your to be read piles… ok this is a lie GIGANTIC TBRS FOR ALL!

The latest Assassin story I read was you’ll never guess it Assassins Apprentice by Robin 77197.jpgHobb *GASP* I know who would have guessed this was about an Assassin!

This is the first book in the Farseer trilogy and shows a young Fitz grow up and learn poisoning and how to use the magic inside him, there isn’t much stabby but my bets are as he gets older the stabbiness increases. He is also a royal Bastard and I just love this trope so much.

29845906Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Welcome to the world of epic fantasy and the badass hogwarts where a handful of a dead man’s teeth is required to get in. Nevernight takes place in a school for Assassins and you can bet there are a lot of Deaths I mean the first line is “People often shit themselves when they die”.

A huge vengence plot, epic world building, damn beautiful writing and a stabby character? Nevernight is one of my favourite Fantasy series and Mia my favourite Assassin. I like dark fantasies, I like deaths that’ll break my heart, I love new an intriguing worlds. Also Mia has a not cat that is the sassiest and best. GODSGRAVE IS SO CLOSE I CAN FEEL IT! Stab, stab, stab.

This book is so underated but I loved it and re-read just to love it all over again. Katsa is one of the gifted, being born with different colour eyes it was always known she had a gift and when the King realised her power was death she was made into his personal assassin/mercenary. This book is one of my fave Assassin rebelling stories, Katsa is a feminist a baddass, and a kickass character with a good heart. Stabby, well placed morals, and all the flirting? Yes please.

865293The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

Thieving bastards anyone? Sass levels turned up to 100 and a gang of orphans trained to scam and thief their way through life. Heists, Pirates, Explosions, and magic this book has all I could ever want in a fantasy.

“I cut off his fingers to get him to talk, and when he’d confessed everything I wanted to hear, I had his fucking tongue cut out, and the stump cauterized.”

Everyone in the room stared at him.

“I called him an asshole, too,” said Locke. “He didn’t like that.”

13574861Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

Now my relationship has changed a lot with these books, years ago I was re-reading them and fangirling over Celeana so hard and now I’m just a bit warm to the series, I love cocky smart mouthed Cealena from Throne of Glass but I get annoyed by a lot of the plot twists.

Special mention to my other fave Orphans: Lila & Kell from A darker Shade of Magic & Jon Snow from Game of Thrones.

Staby Assassin books on my TBR:

Have you read any of these? Are Assassins your thing too? Any Assassins recommendations throw them my way!

    1. After seeing it around forever and seeing all the hype for Hobbs series finally ending I decided to get with it and pick up AA, I’m so glad I did it was great, the writing and world building is exactly what i look for in a high fantasy.
It’s probably the least stabby because the MC is quite young and still learning to murder but I hope you love it!
