October Wrap up and Haul

Okay I’m sure no one really notices but I haven’t really posted this month or been reading or commenting on your awesome posts 😦 I just got into a slump and haven’t even reviewed the last 7 books I’ve read because of it. Anyhow I did read this month but I didn’t really stick to me spoopy themed TBR at all because my brain couldn’t handle it.

What I read:

31331865Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

3/5 stars, forgettable but fun. I liked the characters even if I did guess everything about the plot right away.

33871765Junniper Lemon’s happiness index by Julie Israel

3/5 stars but better than Alex, Approximately this reminded me of a slightly less good Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowely. If you loved this book you’re going to love Words in Deep Blue.

33152795Invictus by Ryan Graudin

4/5 Stars, characters were a little bland I would have loved some sass but it was just a bit off.

I really enjoyed the plot and the time travel.

Aussie ya yay! I really enjoyed this and liked the setting, Delilah is a bit of a dill trying and nearly failing at running her dads businesses but still whats a story without some life ruining?

3.5/5 stars

17235026The Girl with all the Gifts by M.R. Carey

whoop Zombie book that I’ve needed to read for so long! I listened to the audio and adored it. I am super pumped to watch the movie

4/5 Stars

34828719.jpgAdultolescence by Gabbie Hanna

2/5 stars

Eh, I listened to the audio and returned it coz it was just meh some of the poems are okay but it mostly read like tumblr posts.

25692886Borderline by Misshell Baker

YES! Squabbling Dragons book of the month, gimme more.

I adored Millie and the mix of myth and real world crime.

7073569Liar by Justine Larbalesteir

2.5/5 stars

eh I would have dnf’d this if I wasn’t listening and reading. I was spoiled by a reviewer who doesn’t know how to tag their shit on goodreads ITS NOT HARD. But yeh it made the story very unthrilling and I didn’t love the ending.

25181955Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell

4.5/5 Stars I so so enjoyed this! I actually read it in a day and couldn’t put it down. It’s not the fastest paced book but the world and magic system is fantastic and I loved the family and friend relationships.

Also squirrel cat.

So I managed to read 2 spooky books, and I also started Strange Weather by Joe Hill and Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King.

I haven’t finished these but I do plan on hopefully maybe finishing them soon, I keep putting them down when they get to heavy and then picking them back up after I’ve read some fluff.

Something that happened this month was I decided I’d use my library more, I have no contemporary reads on my shelf and I read them so fast it hurts to see a $15-20 book be read with in 3 hours and then for me to not love the story. SO library it is! I currently have these on hold:

Liar by Justine Larbalesteir- I own the physical of this but alternated between the library audio.

On the Jelicoe road by Melina Marchetta – My current audio! The narrator is aussie and I love that so much, more aussie voices in my books please.

Untidy towns by Kate O’Donell – I’m currently reading the ebook and it’s not as great as I was expecting, glad it’s a library copy!

The Knife of never letting go by Patrick Ness – This has been on my TBR forever and it’s another case of grabbing the audio from the library so I can convince myself to finally start the damn thing

Reckoning by Magda Szubanski – I love biographies on audio and Magda is such a house hold name in australia I’ve heard great things about her story and I’m excited to read it for myself

Autoboyography by Christina Lauren – I’ve heard so many good things about this book and man the cover is stunning! If I love this one I’ll definitely be getting a copy for my shelf

Now as I am me I did haul some books this month!

So that was October, how was your October? I’m still not feeling 100% into blogging and reviewing but hopefully I’ll get back into it. It’s November and I am doing nanowrimo but mixing it up and writing/editing/hopefully blogging.

To everyone doing NaNo goodluck! I hope you hit all your word counts and reward yourself with too much chocolate

  1. Hey! It’s ok to take a blogging break! I’ve done it before, but after I’ve been away, it always brings that blogging energy back. ☺️ You read quite a few books this month, though, and that’s so awesome!! I’ve been hearing a lot about The Girl With all the Gifts, lately. Glad you liked it! ☺️

    1. Thanks Theresa! It definitely wasn’t planned but I just had zero motivation to sit down and type out a post. I did! I didn’t really enjoy a lot of them but Girl with all the gifts was a shining star, the narration is fantastic and I loved how different the take on Zombies was.

  2. I totally understand.. I kinda always feel like reading, but I always have periods where I can’t manage to write a decent review. And then when I get into the mood I write 4-5 at once haha. That’s just how it is 😀

I like your book haul! Especially the Canavans and The Gunslinger, I enjoyed them all!

  3. The knife of never letting go is an amzing series. The book has a very unique writing style but once you get use to it, its addicting! Such a fantastic adventure across a new planet andeven though its from the perspective of a 13/14 year old, you dont even really notice it! I hope when you get around to it that you do enjoy it! Also, welcome back!
