November Wrap up & Haul

NOVEMBER – The month of stress, of oh shit we’ve officially sold our house, the shit we need somewhere to move, the shit I have packed anything and the shit I’m going to just read instead because calling people hurts my brain and I can’t with responsibilities anymore.

Anytime I have a really life heavy month I tend to read a load? It’s mainly because I need to retreat and recoup after dealing with lawyers, banks, real estate agents and readings how I unwind from it all.

Okay let’s get into what I’ve read:

Untidy Towns by Kate O’Donnell

I feel super disappointed in this one, all of my aussie friends seemed to love it? I was just here like um what’s happening? Why is nothing happening? What are peoples names again I seriously can’t remember anything from this story that’s how much it didn’t impact me.

ALSO I borrowed this from the library under LGBT+ books and the f/f love was a side? I was hoping it would be a main so that disappointed too. I did like the Mum and family, also the country town.

34225450If There’s No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The message in this book is good I guess, don’t fall into peer pressure, don’t make mistakes that could lead to you and your friends dying but if I’m being honest I felt like this was a tad preachy in the “we’ve all made Bad decisions, look what will happen if you make a bad decision too, you don’t want to end up like this main character do you…” And that message is just not really for me.

32491708Now I rise by Kiersten White

SO kickass, so dark, Lada is such a fantastic character and that ending! GAH all books should end that epically.

I have a thing for stabby characters and Lada is the stabbiest, she really has no other redeemable qualities, she’s not remorseful, she’s not even that cocky or witty, she’s mainly stabby and I can get down with that.

1162022On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

More aussie YA, this one a flash back to my highschool years I loved Marchetta and I never got around to reading this one. There’s drama, mystery, disaster, sadness, bad parents, dead parents, sad kids, angry kids, and a whole lot to love in this book.

There is a huge upside and a huge downside to this on audio. Upside author was so aussie and I have never heard an aussie narrator before! It was music to my ears. Downside I was utterly confused for 40% off the book as I didn’t realise there were two timeline… oops

28919058Autoboyography by Christina Lauren

It’s been a while since I gave a contemporary 5 stars a its so good to find one that deserves it and many more, seriously Autoboyography is unique and has such a fresh feel and voice I know some things about LDS (latter-day saints) because my friends family were LDS but not much at all and this book really did it’s research.

Words on Bathroom Walls by Julie Walton

Told in first point of view as a letter/diary type entry to be given to his therapist, Adam’s voice is strong and gripped me from the beginning never losing his unique personality the whole way through Adam is really well written and I would happily read more books with him narrating. I loved being inside his head even with the hard times, and hard times there were.

25446297Unearthed by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Unearthed is amazing as I knew it was going to be, seriously?! Alien planet, a thief and an academic, booby-trapped temple, maths and ancient language translations, conspiracies ready to spike you faster than the traps, a race of “people” who know impossibly too much about earth, and that END.

28220918Updraft by Fran Wilde

Boring characters, somewhat predictable plot, and no world building BUT also fantastic flying descriptions, amazing monsters, and the visuals were some of the best I’ve ever read. I am conflicted

28239935Artemis by Andy Weir

Just as if not more technical than The Martian I still flew through this book. Seriously Andy Weir is way to smart for me but I love reading all the tech talk even if I have no idea what anything is.
If you want a sci-fi that is heavy on the tech, heavy on the humor, and goddamn heavy on trying to kill everyone this is for you.

36313319Sleeping Beauties by Stephen & Owen King

ARGH this book, for a book about a deadly “virus” making woman fall asleep enclosed in cocoons you’d think it would keep me up at night? Nope the 70+ characters did not interest me and seriously this book was sleep inducing if anything. Super disappointed I didn’t love it but what can ya do.

That’s 13 books. THIRTEEN! Seriously if you ever want to measure my stress levels just ask me how many books I’ve read that month.

Haul

My haul is super small and yay to that, it’s smaller than usual because I restrained myself this month and started using the library instead of buying books myself, so good! I do love.

Okay just to update my project 5 I’ve bought a total of 25 books so far and read 117 making me 8 books behind my goal. OH MY GOD I thought I would be like 40 books behind?! If I dont buy any books next month which I’m not planning on doing anyway I can actually win project 5! WOW.

Life Stuffs:

  • We officially sell our house on 11 days GAH HELP
  • I had my 9 year anniversary yesterday, it’s nearly been a decade who let this happen?!
  • I dealt with a heap of adult problems involving boring stuff like consumers affairs and stat decs, someone save me the paperwork’s only going to get worst.
  • Unearthed Launch was super good!
  • So was this months YA room meet up
  • Oh and I officially finished my first ever story – I’ve written a lot of stories around the 50% mark so to finally get over that hurdle and complete something? Wow. Now to EDIT EDIT EDIT.

So that was my November – I did more stuff like go swimming and adventure with the puppies but yah.

How was your November! How many books do you want to read next month! DECMEBER AHHH FEEL FREE TO JUST YELL THAT THE YEARS GONE TO FAST I SHALL JOIN WE CAN MAKE A REALLY HORIBLE BUT RELATEABLE BAND.

  1. Yay you put dot points in too! How good are they? It makes me so happy to include them. XD
I got We See Everything as well and I didn’t realise it was a dystopian-esque story! I might give it a go once I’ve whittled some books on my TBR away. We shall see. (:

  2. Adulting and responsibilities and everything just suck sometimes, why can’t we go hide in a cave or something with our books and read all day long, ahah. I’m sorry November was a bit hectic for you, I hope that December will be great! xx
It seems like you had a great reading month overall, though, so that’s great! So glad you loved Autoboyography and Jellicoe Road, I really want to read these two! 🙂

  3. I struggled to get into Sleeping Beauties because of the tons of characters! I just had it from Overdrive and the list of people waiting was very long so I gave it back without finishing. I want to love it though, it sounded so good.

    1. I was so sad it didnt deliver! You were right in giving it back I kept hoping it would pick up at some point and it just didnt :/ The premise sounded so good but yah not my fave King by a long way I wish I had dnf’d it.

        1. who knows, i did listen to an interview and they each edited and changed each others bits and wrote all different scenes so they’re writing wasn’t distinguishable from each other but yah it just didnt have enough movement plot wise for me and way to many other characters. Although Under the dome has a million characters too and I loved that…

            1. Its a lot like this… but you know good :’D Set over a week, heaaps of well done characters and even animal POV’s and how the people in the town are more of a danger then the threat of a dome entrapping you.

  4. I tend to read more when I’m stressed too. It’s easier to just get lost in other worlds than deal with your own. You read so many books, that’s awesome! I really want to read Words on Bathroom Walls. I’m hoping my library gets it soon or someone gets it for me for Christmas, lol. Autoboyography sounds so good. I was debating on requesting it when I seen it was on Netgalley. I really want to get my hands on it, especially now that I seen you gave it five stars.
