GUYS! Last week I attended the Penguin teen showcase (catch up on all the things by searching #penguinteenshowcase on the twitters) BUT I SAW LOVE, SIMON *heart eyes* that’s all I’m gonna say about it though, I’ll be watching it again once it formally comes out at the movies, so hilarious and happy making.

Now back to the original point A RANT BECAUSE PENGUIN PUBLISHERS ARE HORRIBLE. Do you know how many books they made me put on my tbr? I know right!? How horrible of them to be publishing all the good books and taking all my money.

NEW BOOKS I AM EXCITED FOR: 

Stone Girl by Eleni Hale

This book has to be my most anticipated and I only found out about it on the night. Stone Girl is about a girl who’s become a ward of the state and started living in a residential unit with a bunch of other teens. It’s about how these kids are forgotten about and the author having grown up in ressie units herself draws a lot on her own experiences.

Having been around a lot of friends that grew up in ressie units I’m super excited to read this book. You do grow up fast when you’re forced to and it completely changes you as a person. I’m also really interested to see how much I see of my teenage years in this book as my experiences ain’t really reflected in your average contemporary YA.

Neverland by Margot McGovern

Oh what that names familiar? Yes it’s Lectito herself! Margot is an aussie blogger and I am pumped not only to read her book because I always enjoyed her blog but because it sounds incredible. Now I wasn’t obsessed with Peter Pan as a kid but this story sounds great on its own. Mental health, teenagers, mermaids and fantasies that turn dangerous. I thought I’d be snagging myself an early copy at the showcase but it was not meant to be *cries* *sits patiently until April*.

Tin Heart by Shivaun Plozza

I adored Shivaun’s debut Frankie, it’s so Aussie, so great and I’ve been waiting for another by her ever since. Tin Heart is about an actual heart transplant?! I’ve never read about something like that and I didn’t realise I wanted to until hearing the synopsis. Family fun, a literal new chance at life, and Shivaun’s writing, I’m sold.

 

 

The Dangerous Art of Blending in by Angelo Surmelis

This book is going to break me. A book about Evan, his mum is abusive and see’s him as a disappointment, his dad works a lot and doesn’t speak much, and he has a crush on his Best friend Henry.

“Evan has to decide how to find his voice in a world where he has survived so long by avoiding attention at all costs.”

 

 

 

This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada

I actually own this book so it’s most likely to be read before the other three. I’ve heard so much about This Mortal Coil from friends so hearing more from Penguin just gave me the kick in the but to read this awesome story about a character that can hack into DNA!? YES PLEASE.

 

 

 

I had a great time at the Showcase and just want to thank Penguin so much for putting on such an amazing free event and allowing me to watch Love,Simon with a room full of book lovers, the reactions from everyone were amazing and I don’t think I ever want to be in a different cinema crowd.
