When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.
As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it… or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

A Court of Thornes and Roses is one of my favorite fantasy re-tellings.
Set in the world where the Faerie land is separated from the human world by a wall. The humans protecting themselves as they can with the threat the faeries hold over them by being so close.
Feyre is our protagonist and boy what a protagonist she is, Fierce, loyal, loving, artistic, self doubting, all to human.
Feyre is relatable on all too many levels. She constantly reminds me of how humans can be just as bad as there magical counterparts and how Faeries can be just as good as humans. The underlining themes of goodness, sacrifice, and human nature is haunting and done so well.
ACOTAR is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, while there are obvious similarities it holds it own as an original and captivating story. The characters all have distinct personalities and come with rich backstories that I really want to learn more about!
The world building is intricate and amazing. Sarah J. Maas’s writing never feels like info dumps. The story and plot are woven together so perfectly, I found myself picking up on clues from the first page (on my re-read)
Feyre is a painter and see’s the world in vibrant colors. She can look into paintings and read the story between the brush strokes. Her descriptions of the world are perfect and had me transported to lush meadows and pools full of starlight.
Tamlin is the beast and captor but also so much more *did someone call for a sexy and sweet Faerie? Well here he is, Sarah really delivers in the book boyfriend department.
Lucian has to be one of my favorite characters. He’s the perfect amount of smart ass mixed with good intentions and messed up past.
The ending had me at the edge of my seat even the second time around
5 out of 5 STARS*****

It’s one of my favorites, but like all fantasy you have to be in the mood for it or at least I have to be 🙂 My TBR is mostly fantasy series I just haven’t started yet because it feels like such a commitment! haha

I got a few chapters in before I had to stop for dinner (my damn stomach wouldn’t stop yelling at me :P) but I’m back at it again now. My gosh..I’m internally screaming but I’m trying not to read too fast lol. It’s hard though!
