Windwitch by Susan Dennard

33854386.jpgAfter an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead. Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.

When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her—yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?

After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge—especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands.

Lets just start off with who do I have to sacrifice to become an Iron Witch because seriously?! I WANT MAGNETO WITCH POWERS SO BADLY XD

Windwitch is the next book in the Witchlands series and while I enjoyed it I didn’t love it as much as I did the first book Truthwitch and I know exactly why.

We were introduced to new characters that I just did not care about one bit. Well they weren’t really new but in the last book they didn’t have their own POV and I appreciated that XD

I didn’t like Merik’s or his Sister’s voice I ended up skimming through their chapters and contemplated skipping them entirely but didn’t want to miss out on any important scenes. I just wanted to hurry back to Iseult, Safi, and Aeduan.

Man I love these 3 characters: Iseult, Safi, and Aeduan I’m surprised by how my feelings changed towards them. In Truthwitch Iseult was my favourite because she’s decisive and level-headed always working out a plan while Safi was constantly doubting herself BUT in this Safi is my favourite.

Safi’s growth is amazing she’s still scared and often wants to defer to Iseult for help but now that she’s not in a position where she can do that we see how strong she is alone.

Again this book delivered in epic fight scenes, I mean exploding boats, flooding cities, an all out battle between witches and dangerous beasts, an army closing in, a one on one scruffle (just the epicness that is what an iron witch can do) it was all amazing!

Aeduan and Safi’s dynamic is one of my faves, hate to love trope anyone? Aeduan is very Edward Cullin in the sense he’s intrigued by Safi because he can’t smell her blood, and they may be more a like then he knows, he’s just such an interesting character and antihero.

While I didn’t love the new POV’s and knocked a star off because of that I just did not care AT ALL about Merik and his sisters problems. Also while I enjoyed the action and Safi/Iseults pov they didn’t really do anything? Both of them ran away from armys and people trying to escape and find each other but that is all that happens… the more I think back the more I realise the problems this series has.

I will be reading on, I do like the characters and the Witch lands I just wanted a lot more from this.

4/5 stars

Have you read this? Is it on your TBR? If you were a Witch what power would you like? Fire, Wind, Iron, Water, Earth, Truth, Threads, Blood?

I know I would choose Iron without a pause
