Ten New Fantasy books on the TBR – Top Ten Tuesday

TOP TEN TUESDAY giving me motivational ideas all year round XD This is a feature created and run by The Broke and the Bookish and the best prompt, if you’re new to blogging (or old) I highly recommend joining in! It’s an awesome way to find new blogs and the prompts are always fantastic.

This weeks prompt is *drum roll* 10 Books From X Genre That I’ve Recently Added To My TBR List I’ve added a lot of Fantasy to my TBR lately so here are my most recent and highly anticipated fantasies.

Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb

The second book in the Farseer trilogy, I just finished Assassins Apprentice and really enjoyed it so of course this book was added to my TBR. All that is stopping me from buying it right away is deciding on what edition I want, SO MANY CHOICES. I could have phoned this whole TTT in and put 10 Hobb books on here.

The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell

Stop the Magician.
Steal the book.
Save the future.

That’s all the tag line I need. A time travelling thief trained from a young age to bring down people who are capturing people with an affinity for Magic and trapping them in Manhattan.  ALSO THAT COVER… okay disclaimer I’m such a fangirl for all the following covers, they’re just so pretty!

Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller

But that is not all! It’s going to be a duology and the main character is Gender Fluid, sick of being a high way robber they enter a comp to become queen assassin and yes this is such a used trope BUT the audition is a fight to the death and I am so into that.

I can’t wait to read this and hopefully it turns the assassin competition trope on its head.

Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts

I just love bastards in fantasy? Give me all the orphaned kids and teach them how to pick pocket and kill, thank you.

I’ve heard this has hate/love friendships, sass, and mercenaries. I AM EXCITED FOR SASSY STABBY BASTARDS

Roar by Cora Carmack

Royal family that keeps control of the violent storms around their lands, a main character next in line with no powers to be seen, an arranged marriage with a shady dude buying illegal magic.

Give me all the sneakiness and storm powers! I love the ability to control weather and can’t wait to see this books take on the whole thing.

Unearthed by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Can Amie just co- author everything? I mean seriously her books are amazing and I have no doubt this is going to blow my mind.

The tagline is Lara Croft mets Indiana Jones does it get any better? I think not.

Berserker by Emmy Laybourne

NORSE GODS. Is there anything more you need to know? Yes, well fine then:

  • Murder gift
  • When someone she loves is threaten she turns into a ball of murder
  • Her bros been accused of a crime he didn’t do so I’m guessing there’s a lot of threats and rage killings
  • The cover has blood and I like
  • Basically just Murder

Invictus by Ryan Graudin

I loved Wolf by Wolf and still need to read the finally Blood for Blood but I’m even more excited for Invictus.

I may of tortured myself by reading a sample of the first chapter and AH I just know I’m going to love this time travel, sci fi: Doctor Who meets Firefly mash up!

Again I’d hate to repeat myself but the cover is stunning! 2017 is really stepping up its fantasy cover game.

23264671.jpgOkay last but not least and I’m kind of cheating because it is in no way new to my TBR *epic guitar solo* GODSGRAVE BY JAY KRISTOFF

Am I using this post as an excuse to shout about all the stabby fantasies? Yes why would you even question that! I am all the excitement for the second book in the Nevernight series, Mia is a badass killer and I just can’t wait to be repeatedly stabbed in the feels by her and this book. Stab stab stab.

I hope you enjoyed my list and I didn’t hurt your TBR to badly! Just joking I wish your tbr to grow large and lovely like mine is, I mean if you don’t cry and yell about a giant TBR I will never fully trust you. Organisation and time management skills = All alien concepts that people often hear about but never reach.

Did you do a TTT this week! Any of my picks on your list?

  1. I AM SO PUMPED FOR ALL OF THEEEEEEESE! I heard about Mask of Shadows only yesterday and like you I was like GENDER FLUID? FIGHT TO THE DEATH? Sign me UP. Also Royal Bastards has been lurking on my TBR in the shadows. DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HOW MUCH I WANT GODSGRAVE RIGHT NOW. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

If you put Hobb books as your entire list, I would applaud you. XD ❤

  2. I don’t do TTT so far as I barely can keep up with my two other meme. Not enough time😉 I do adore fantasy and have some on myTBR. Royal Bastards keeps coming bakck so…nNow gender fluid…I have gay friends atc. But I must confess gender fluid seems unsettling. Maybe I should read it to open up my horizon?

    1. UNEARTHED JUST GOT MOVIE OPTIONED! I am all the excitement and I haven’t even read the book xD
I love Mia and Jays writing so I’m super excited for GG and need more of this story seriously Jay and Amie have to be two of my fave authors.

  3. *flails* So many good books in this list! There are a bunch on my list that I cannot WAIT to get to – The Last Magician, Invictus, and Roar being some of them. I agree that the assassin trope is so overused in YA, but Mask of Shadows sounds so lovely and intriguing, I can’t wait to get into it. Let me run and add some of the other ones on my TBR. 🙂

    1. YES! Add all the books to your TBR just pile it on until you can’t see the top anymore XD So excited for those 3 and I’m hoping Mask of Shadows breaths some new life into the trope! Hope we both love all these books ❤

  4. What a great list! The Last Magician, Mask of Shadows and the Farseer trilogy are already on my TBR, but Roar sounds right up my alley…
I do love the assassins in fantasy. I think I’ve been missing something, because the only proper assassin I can think of right now is Celaena from Throne of Glass. Unless we also count Inej? I dunno. What assassins have I been missing out on?!

    1. They all sound so good! I cannot wait to get my hands on everyone XD

ALL THE ASSASSINS! Well Fitz from the Farseen trilogy is one, Mia from Nevernight (goes to assassin training school and is badass) Celaena of course, Graceling by Kristin Cashore is another great one more Mercenary then assassin but same same XD

If I was to choose my fave assassin it would have to be Mia from Nevernight she’s just so ruthless but amazing at the same time.
