Mini Reviews – Contemporary

I’ve been lacking in review posts lately, and to be honest I’ve been lacking at reading other people’s as well. SO to break it up I’m doing mini reviews. With Contemporary I prefer a small snippet review anyway so hopefully there are some others like me. Also books that are contemporary and under 3 stars? More than likely I’ve forgotten everyone’s name and what even happens.

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett 2.5/5 stars

Cute and an easy read, nothing that overly wowed me. To be honest I found myself uninterested to see the conclusion because there was just no connection for me. I did like the focus on friendship and having a dad firmly in the picture but everything else I was just meh on. To much hype strike again.

33871765Juniper Lemons, Happiness index by Julie Israel 3.5/5 stars

I really enjoyed all these characters and Juniper herself, the singing was super cute and for a book with happy in the title it was pretty sad but really well balanced.

This deals with death, mentions of attempted rape, family abuse, and grief. I thought it dealt with all the harder topics really well and balanced out perfectly. If you’re looking for a book that deals with the same themes really really well I highly recommend Words on Deep Blue by Cath Crowley.

30197201A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard 4/5 Stars

This book was everything everyone told me it would be. Cute, funny, SO MUCH character growth, romance, diverse characters, and about learning how to work in a world that doesn’t always make room for you.

I adored the romance, I loved the character arcs and the families. Steffi is a fantastic character and the writing was done with a lot of internal monologue which really showed how personality and thoughts on situations.

The Flywheel by Erin Gough 4/5 stars

It’s Aussie, it’s a super cute romance, it’s a teen being overwhelmed with so much responsibility and thoughts, and just THINGS TO DO. I was overwhelmed reading Delilah’s life I don’t know how she managed. Also super cute romance, amazing crushing, girls loving girls. Fantastic aussie contemporary.

Contemporaries are so all so pretty and while I did like most of these the only one I imagine myself re-reading is A Quiet Kind of Thunder.

Have you read any of these? What are your thoughts? Are they on your TBR?

  1. I LOVED The Quiet Kind of Thunder! I thought the romance was cute but I also loved the mental health rep 🙂 And the writing and story was really good as well!
