Today I’m doing a mash up of Top Ten Tuesday hosted by Broke and Bookish and the #LoveOzYABloggers which is hosted by #LoveOzYA, a community led organisation dedicated to promoting Australian young adult literature. Todays Top Ten Tuesday is Top 10 fave books of 2017 and I have a few posts coming up with my fave 3 books in all the genres because 1. I read too much and 2. ONLY 10! I have too many faves so this is going to be a little different.
Loveozya bloggers theme is Christmas reads so here are my Top 2017 books you should read over christmas. These aren’t really festive because I don’t really read traditionally festive books but they are great so here ya go.
This book is Love oz ya set at an US vidcon like convention and has so many goodies. An autistic main character, a friendship to love, a bi sexual Chinese Australian YouTube star. I had tears in my eyes reading these because I was just so happy it existed and related and loved the story so very much. It is one of my all time faves now and everyone should have it on their christmas reading lists.
The Every Trilogy by Ellie Marney
I stumbled across this thanks to the amazing Begin End Begin, an anthology full of Aussie authors. Ellie’s story was a little prequel to this series and made my heart so happy, I wanted more of these characters and I was lucky enough to find out YES there is a whole trilogy set in Melbourne and it’s a Sherlock retelling/inspired. The Every series is page turning, adventurous, full of family, grief, and friendship. Also lions.
I will be shoving this series at my loved ones all christmas long it’s just so good.
Nevernight and Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff
I have already shoved this series at multiple people and given a copy of Godsgrave to a friend. I actually have spare paperbacks that I lend to people that’s how much I recommend it to fellow high fantasy lovers. It’s stabby, twisty, and one of my favourite female characters I’ve ever read.
Having a fave female character written by a male author is a first for me but wow it’s just so good and I love Mia in all her stabby revenge seeking glory.
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
Look this is so Christmas-y I mean hello? Anti-christ? Witches? Angels and Demons just loving earth and not wanting the apocalypse to happen? Hmmm I may need to look up what Christmas is again…
This book made me laugh out loud so much, I didn’t even mind the stares I got from my fellow train passengers, they did not know what they were missing out on. Perfect christmas read for everyone.
Okay so not all of these are Aussie and not all of these are young adult and yes you could argue none of these are really christmas themed and Casey do you even know what a prompt is or how to follow one?! Obviously not. BUT these books are great, read them pretty please with christmas spirit on top.
YES Queens of Geek, I loved this book so, SO much, I’m so happy to see it here!! ❤

I haven’t read any of these ones… oops. What would you recommend most highly? I’ve had Nevernight on my TBR list for aaaages but I’m hearing a lot of hype surrounding Queens of Geek…

They’re so different I’d say just go with what you’re in the mood for! Nevernight is amazing but it’s very high fantasy and word heavy so if youre more in the mood for an easy read Queens of Geek is perfect and vice versa xD

I haven’t posted mine yet unfortunately, been busy yelling at companies this week. Good time kids, good times. I love the Every series with a passion. The banter and slow burning romance and being able to recognise the locations where the book is taking place.
Mycroft: To the Zoo Watts and hurry.
Me: I HAVE BEEN TO THAT ZOO MYCROFT. ME! I’VE BEEN THERE!
I tend to enjoy Aussie books far more these days when it comes to contemporaries especially.
